Limassol Port on standby for implementation of the ESTIA Plan – Increased security measures by the Ports Authority

The Port of Limassol is ready, should there be a relevant request, to welcome third-country citizens from war-torn areas, on the basis of the activation of the ESTIA Special National Plan, Port Master Panayiotis Agathocleous has said.

As Agathocleous said, “We are implementing the ESTIA plan and are on standby, as there is, so far, no request from any Embassy for the evacuation and use of the Port of Limassol.”

Both the Port Authority and all the bodies involved – the Civil Defence, Red Cross and Ministry of Foreign Affairs – “are ready to implement the plan,” he said, indicating that the requesting country can choose either the Port of Larnaca or the Port of Limassol.

In the event that there is a relevant request for the port of Limassol, he continued, the reception of third-country citizens will take place at the DP World Limassol terminal, as during the implementation of the plan last summer.

Finally, Agathocleous noted that, in recent days, the Port Authority has been implementing level 2 security measures, which concerns increased security measures, with patrols and increased checks at the entrances to the terminals.
