MOSOLF Port Logistics & Services expands port network with new terminal at Port of Oostende

MOSOLF Port Logistics & Services (MPLS) continues to expand its European port network with the establishment of a new terminal at the Port of Oostende. This step strengthens MPLS’s presence in the North Sea region and creates additional capacity for seaborne vehicle handling as well as specialised logistics and technical services.

The new location complements MPLS’s existing network with a strategically positioned port offering a high degree of operational flexibility. At the Port of Oostende, vehicles can be technically processed and prepared for onward distribution directly on site, allowing seamless integration into the MOSOLF network.

Flexible terminal with growth potential

The terminal currently covers an area of approximately 80,000 square metres, with expansion options of up to 200,000 square metres. Its current capacity of up to 3,000 vehicle storage spaces provides sufficient room for vehicle handling and interim storage. The infrastructure is complemented by a workshop facility and high-voltage charging infrastructure.
With a draught of 8 to 9 metres, the terminal is suitable for shortsea operations and can accommodate around 80 percent of the global RoRo fleet, offering MPLS additional flexibility for efficient intra-European transport solutions.

Strengthening the European port network

The Port of Oostende fits seamlessly into the existing MPLS port network, adding a high-performance location on the southern North Sea. Together with other MPLS sites – including Zeebrugge, Wilhelmshaven, Cuxhaven, Koper and further international ports – this creates a robust and geographically diversified network for international vehicle logistics.
“With the new terminal at the Port of Oostende, we are expanding our port network with a location that offers operational flexibility, growth potential and close links to existing MOSOLF structures,” says Steffen Klatte, Managing Director of MOSOLF Port Logistics & Services. “Against the backdrop of volatile supply chains and rising demands for efficiency and resilience, this expansion represents an important strategic step.”

Focus on vehicles, RoRo and specialised logistics

The site is designed for multimodal vehicle handling, technical services and value-added logistics processes. In addition, the Port of Oostende offers favourable conditions for high and heavy cargo as well as project cargo, which are gaining importance in the context of energy and infrastructure projects.

“Oostende is not a standalone location for us, but an integral part of an integrated port and logistics system,” explains Kai Wenhold, General Manager Port Logistics at MOSOLF Port Logistics & Services. “Its proximity to Zeebrugge, the available space and the port’s maritime orientation allow us to complement existing flows in a meaningful way and open up new market segments.”

A partnership with perspective

The Port of Oostende follows a clear development strategy with a focus on blue economy, offshore energy and specialised logistics. The establishment of MPLS aligns with this strategy and underlines the growing importance of Oostende as an efficient alternative to more congested North Sea ports.

With the new terminal, MPLS is laying the foundation for further growth, additional services and a long-term partnership with the Port of Oostende – embedded in a closely interconnected European port network.

The MOSOLF Group, founded in 1955 and headquartered in Kirchheim unter Teck, is one of the leading system service providers to the automotive industry in Europe. As an owner-managed family business, MOSOLF offers a comprehensive range of services along the entire automotive logistics value chain – from transportation and site logistics to special vehicle construction and retail solutions. With 51 locations in Europe and a bimodal transport fleet, the company focuses on innovative and future-oriented logistics concepts. E-trucks are already part of the fleet, as is a hybrid-powered inland waterway vessel, which underlines the gradual implementation of MOSOLF’s sustainable efforts.

As part of a strategic realignment at the beginning of 2024, the MOSOLF Group is now divided into two central business units: “Logistics & Services”, which specializes in transport, site logistics and Technology & Services, and “Special Vehicles”, which covers special vehicle construction for internal security, defence and disaster control. The portfolio is complemented by MOSOLF Port Logistics & Services GmbH, which was founded in 2024 and operates maritime logistics locations such as Wilhelmshaven, Cuxhaven and Zeebrügge.

With the acquisition of the Transport Overseas Group (TO Group) on January 2, 2025, the MOSOLF Group is strengthening its expertise in the areas of roll-on/roll-off, break bulk, project logistics and high & heavy and expanding its global network for maritime transport solutions. In addition, the acquisition of Stoof International GmbH from April 2025 will expand MOSOLF’s capacities in the field of armored special vehicles.
