Northport Achieves Double Record-Breaking Performance In 2025 For The Second Consecutive Year

Northport (Malaysia) Bhd (“Northport” or “Company”), a member of MMC Group, closed 2025 on a high note by achieving a double record-breaking performance for the second consecutive year, supported by strong growth in both container and conventional cargo segments.

In 2025, Northport recorded an all-time high annual container throughput of 3,804,173 TEUs, surpassing its previous record of 3,665,738 TEUs in 2024. The Company also registered its highest annual conventional cargo throughput since the establishment of Northport, reaching 12,903,714 FWTs, exceeding the previous record of 12,691,633 FWTs achieved in 2024.

Northport’s record-breaking feat was a key contributor to Port Klang’s success in breaking into the world’s top 10 busiest container ports for the first time in 2025.

On a year-on-year basis, container throughput increased by 3.8%, while conventional cargo throughput grew by 1.7%, reflecting sustained demand, operational resilience and consistent execution across Northport’s terminals.

“The double record-breaking performance achieved in 2025 is a strong reflection of the dedication, discipline and teamwork demonstrated by our entire workforce. Despite operating in a challenging and competitive environment, TeamNorthport remained focused on operational efficiency and customer service, enabling us to deliver sustained growth across both our container and conventional cargo businesses,” said Nik Muzani Nik Abdul Aziz, Acting Chief Executive Officer of Northport.

In addition to annual records, Northport also achieved new monthly throughput milestones in 2025. The Company recorded its highest-ever monthly container volume of 366,131 TEUs in October 2025, while September 2025 saw the highest monthly conventional cargo throughput since the establishment of Northport, amounting to 1,327,883 FWTs.

Beyond operational performance, 2025 marked significant progress in Northport’s strategic positioning and sustainability journey. During the year, Northport was appointed by Tailwind Shipping Lines as its Intra-Asia Regional Hub, underscoring strong confidence in the port’s capabilities, connectivity and role within the regional shipping network.

Northport also continued to advance its environmental, social and governance (ESG) agenda. In recognition of its sustainability efforts, in January 2025, the Company won the “Excellence in Automotive Sustainability Management Best Practices” award at the 20th Malaysia Car of the Year (MCOTY) 2024, and in February 2025, the Company was recognised as a recipient in the ‘Low Carbon Zone’ category at the 2024 Low Carbon Cities Award.

Northport closed 2025 on a high note by achieving a double record-breaking performance for the second consecutive year, supported by strong growth in both container and conventional cargo segments, with annual throughput reaching 3,804,173 TEUs and 12,903,714 FWTs respectively

To further support greener operations, Northport procured three (3) units of Proton e.MAS 7 electric vehicles for operational safety surveillance and deployed twelve (12) units of Blueshark R1 electric motorcycles for daily port operations. In conjunction with World Environment Day 2025, the Company also launched its Sustainability Management Framework, providing a structured approach to integrating ESG principles across operations and business activities.

Infrastructure development also remained a key focus in 2025, with the continued implementation of the Wharf 9 upgrading project, aimed at enhancing terminal capacity, improving operational efficiency and enabling the handling of larger vessels.

Looking ahead, Northport remains committed to strengthening its long-term competitiveness through its Modernisation and Digitalisation initiatives.

“As we move into 2026, our focus will be on advancing modernisation and digitalisation across infrastructure, systems and workforce capabilities, while ensuring that growth is firmly supported by higher safety standards and a strong safety culture. By continuously enhancing our operational resilience, safety performance and sustainability practices, we are positioning Northport to remain relevant, competitive and trusted as the preferred gateway for Malaysia’s trade,” added Nik Muzani.
