The U.S. Maritime Administration (MARAD) and the U.S. Coast Guard (USCG) announced the transition completion of National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) and environmental compliance work for deepwater port licenses Friday.

This collaborative effort directly supports President Trump’s Executive Order 14154, Unleashing American Energy, and fulfills congressional intent as outlined in the recently enacted Coast Guard Authorization Act (CGAA). The Coast Guard remains committed to supporting the legislative direction established by Congress and ensuring effective interagency coordination.

As a result of this transition, MARAD will direct all NEPA and associated environmental reviews related to deepwater port license applications. The Coast Guard will support MARAD as a cooperating agency and will remain responsible for oversight of the safety, design, construction and operations of deepwater port facilities.

This change exemplifies President Trump’s dedication to restoring America’s maritime dominance. It streamlines the environmental review process, eliminates duplicative and overly burdensome requirements and reduces costs to industry while maintaining robust U.S. maritime safety standards.
