Work begins at Dock AZ1 on assembling equipment for the first plant in continental Europe for the manufacture of synthetic aggregates

Petronor, part of the Repsol Group, and O.C.O Technology have begun assembling equipment for the Biscay Eco Aggregates plant, a groundbreaking facility in continental Europe for the manufacture of eco-aggregates that capture CO₂. This innovative plant, scheduled to be operational in 2026, is being built at Dock AZ1, consolidating the role of the Port of Bilbao as a hub for energy transition projects.

Using incineration waste and captured CO₂ as feedstock, the synthetic aggregates produced at the new factory will replace natural aggregates in a clear example of the circular economy, avoiding the extraction of natural resources and the accumulation of waste in landfills. A further advantage is that these artificial limestone aggregates will continue to capture carbon dioxide from the atmosphere once manufactured.
