Global Maritime Forum joins new platform to accelerate India’s green maritime transition

The Global Maritime Forum has joined the Green Ports and Shipping Network, a new initiative to advance the transition to low- and zero-carbon marine fuels in India.

Launched at last week’s 3rd Green Hydrogen India Symposium in New Delhi, the network brings together ports, shipping companies, regulators, technology providers, financiers, and non-profit organisations from across the maritime value chain. Its primary focus is on developing practical pathways for the deployment of green hydrogen, ammonia, and methanol as next-generation shipping fuels, as well as the needed infrastructure to support their use and widespread adoption.

Network members will carry out pilot projects and feasibility studies, engage stakeholders across the value chain, advocate for supportive government policies, build capacity and disseminate knowledge among members, and monitor and evaluate the network’s activities.

“India is one of the world’s most prominent maritime nations and has the potential to be a major producer and bunkering hub for low- and zero-carbon shipping fuels,” said Global Maritime Forum Chief Executive Officer Johannah Christensen. “By convening actors from across India’s maritime value chain with international organisations supporting shipping’s decarbonisation, the Green Ports and Shipping Network can be a powerful force for boosting first-mover projects and positioning India as a leader in the maritime energy transition.”

The Green Ports and Shipping Network is an initiative of the Green Hydrogen Association (GH2 India), a multi-stakeholder platform dedicated to accelerating the development and deployment of green hydrogen solutions in India.
