Solar Energy Corporation of India (SECI), a public sector company owned by the country’s Ministry of New and Renewable Energy, has cancelled two offshore wind energy tenders.

One tender is for a 500MW project under the viability gap funding scheme, while the other is for the allocation of seabed lease rights for 4GW of capacity.

Local media have stated that the tenders were cancelled due to a lack of interest from developers.

The 500MW project was supposed to be built off Gujarat on a build-own-operate basis, and the successful bidder would sign a power purchase agreement for 25 years. The bidder would also undertake surveys of the seabed and associated development activities before signing the deal.

The tender for the project was issued in September last year, while the final closing date for bids was August 4 this year.
