Scottish 100MW floating wind farm gets green light

The Scottish government has granted the developers of the 100MW Salamander floating wind farm the go-ahead to build and operate the floating array.

Salamander, one of the most advanced floating wind projects in the UK, is developed by a joint venture partnership between Ørsted, Simply Blue Group, and Subsea 7. It will be located some 35 km off the coast of Peterhead.

The wind farm will provide insights into the technical, regulatory, and commercial challenges associated with floating wind deployment in Scottish waters ahead of future ScotWind leasing rounds.

The project is also the first of the innovation projects from the INTOG leasing round to reach this stage. INTOG is a leasing round for offshore wind projects that will directly reduce emissions from oil & gas production and boost further innovation.

This consent, along with the onshore planning permission in principle awarded in March 2025, ensures the project remains on track for deployment before the end of 2030.
