UK approves 1.5GW offshore wind farm off Lincolnshire coast

GTR4 Limited, a joint venture between Corio and its affiliates, TotalEnergies, and Gulf Energy Development, has secured development consent from the UK authorities for the Outer Dowsing offshore wind farm.

The project, located approximately 54 km off the Lincolnshire coast, will comprise up to 100 wind turbine generators, an offshore accommodation platform, up to six offshore transformer substations, up to two offshore reactive compensation platforms, and up to four export cables.

These cables will make landfall at Wolla Bank before continuing underground to a new substation at Surfleet Marsh.

Construction could begin as early as 2027, with first power expected in 2030. Once operational, the development will deliver 1.5GW of offshore wind capacity, contributing significantly to the UK Government’s target of 50GW of offshore wind by 2030 and supporting national net-zero ambitions.

The project was examined under the UK’s Nationally Significant Infrastructure Project regime and took part in the NSIP Early Adopters Programme, which aimed to focus examination on key issues and streamline the consenting process. Environmental impacts were assessed as part of the examination and decision process.

Following the consent decision, regulatory engagement will continue as the project moves towards construction.
