UK authorities give approval to 1.5GW offshore wind farm

Plans for the 1.5GW Morgan offshore wind farm, 32km off the Lancashire coast in the Irish Sea, have been given planning permission by the UK government.

The Morgan project will have 96 turbines, enough electricity to power nearly two million homes annually.

The application was submitted to the UK Planning Inspectorate for consideration by Morgan Offshore Wind Limited on April 24, 2024, and accepted for examination on May 17, 2024. It was awarded as part of the Round 4 Offshore Wind Licensing Arrangements.

This is the 97th energy application out of 161 applications examined to date and completed by the Planning Inspectorate.

Challenges to the decision can be made to the UK High Court within six weeks to determine if there are grounds for a judicial review.

Plans for the onshore connection to the national grid from Starr Gate through Fylde are still under consideration.
