China Seeks Shipbuilding Cooperation with South Korea

While maintaining its position as the world’s No. 1 in shipbuilding orders, China has proposed cooperation with South Korea, the runner-up. This is also seen as a move intended to counter the United States by expanding shipbuilding cooperation with South Korea, which is participating in the shipbuilding cooperation project MASGA (Make American Shipbuilding Great Again).

China’s state-run Global Times (GT) reported on April 7 that “there is room for mutually beneficial cooperation between South Korea and China in areas such as technological levels, cost structures, and market positioning.”

GT also stated, “From the perspective of Asian manufacturing as a whole, close cooperation between South Korea and China in shipbuilding and other equipment manufacturing will enhance Asia’s position within the global value chain and allow it to gain greater benefits in the ever-expanding global market.”
