State-owned Cochin Shipyard Limited (CSL) on Friday, July 4, said it has signed a memorandum of understanding with HD Korea Shipbuilding & Offshore Engineering Co Ltd (HD KSOE) of South Korea. The agreement outlines a framework for long-term collaboration across key areas of shipbuilding and maritime development.

The MoU covers the joint exploration of new building opportunities in India and abroad, sharing of technical expertise to meet global shipbuilding standards and initiatives aimed at enhancing productivity and capacity utilisation. Both companies will also work together on workforce upskilling and explore potential collaboration on other shipbuilding-related projects.

KSOE is a global leader in shipbuilding and marine engineering, with proven expertise in designing and constructing commercial vessels, naval platforms, and offshore infrastructure. KSOE oversees the operations of some of the world’s largest shipyards, including Hyundai Heavy Industries, Hyundai Mipo Dockyard, and Hyundai Samho Heavy Industries.

Cochin Shipyard has delivered several landmark projects, including India’s first indigenous aircraft carrier, and continues to serve premier domestic clients, including the Indian Navy, Indian Coast Guard, and Shipping Corporation of India, with a track record of delivering 47 high-end vessels to international clients in countries.

The collaboration supports the Government of India’s long-term maritime strategies under the Maritime India Vision 2030 and Maritime Amrit Kaal Vision 2047, which seek to position India as a global maritime hub.
