COSCO Shipping orders four new ammonia and methanol-ready bulkers

Qingdao Beihai Shipbuilding, part of China State Shipbuilding Corporation, has signed a contract with COSCO Shipping to build four 210,000-ton methanol and ammonia-ready bulk carriers for long-term charter to COSCO Shipping Bulk. Scheduled to meet EEDI Stage III efficiency standards, the vessels will feature next-generation linear designs cutting fuel consumption by about 6%, and be equipped for future alternative fuel use. The order follows earlier deals for similar dual-fuel-ready ships, with COSCO Bulk holding additional orders for Newcastle-type carriers incorporating advanced energy-saving devices.
