HD Korea Shipbuilding & Offshore Engineering announced that it has secured orders for 10 container ships

HD Korea Shipbuilding & Offshore Engineering, the shipbuilding intermediate holding company of HD Hyundai, announced on March 16 that it signed a construction contract for 10 container ships with an Asia-based shipping company. The total order value for the 10 vessels is 823.7 billion won (approximately $568.1 million). The company stated that HD Hyundai Heavy Industries will build the vessels and deliver them by the second half of 2028.

Including this order, HD Korea Shipbuilding & Offshore Engineering has secured orders for a total of 43 vessels worth $5.34 billion to date, achieving $22.9 % of the annual target $23.31 billion.

By ship type, the company has secured orders for 10 liquefied natural gas (LNG) carriers, 20 container ships, 5 liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) and ammonia carriers, 6 crude oil carriers, and 2 petrochemical product carriers (PC vessels).

HD Korea Shipbuilding & Offshore Engineering previously announced on the 10th that it signed a construction contract for 2 LPG carriers with a Europe-based shipowner. The total order value for the 2 vessels is 340.2 billion won, and they will be built by HD Hyundai Samho and delivered by the second half of 2028.

Meanwhile, HD Korea Shipbuilding & Offshore Engineering is focusing on securing orders for high value-added vessels such as LNG carriers, very large crude carriers (VLCCs), and ultra-large container ships. Industry observers expect that demand for crude oil carriers will increase due to the ‘Iran situation.’
