K Shipbuilding wins 460 billion won order for oil and petrochemical carriers

K Shipbuilding Co., Ltd. said on the 13th that it recently signed construction contracts with two European shipping companies for three 115,000-ton crude oil carriers (including one option) and two 50,000-ton petrochemical product carriers, totaling 460 billion won.

The vessels ordered this time meet the strengthened environmental regulations of the International Maritime Organization (IMO). They satisfy phase 3 of the Energy Efficiency Design Index (EEDI), and a new hull form design has been applied, improving propulsion efficiency by about 2.4% compared with existing designs.

A K Shipbuilding Co., Ltd. official said, “This is the result of being recognized for the technology and competitiveness we have accumulated over a long period in the mid-size tanker segment,” and added, “We will continue technology development and quality improvements to solidify our leading position in the mid-size vessel market.”

Meanwhile, K Shipbuilding Co., Ltd. posted cumulative sales of 899.7 billion won and operating profit of 84.7 billion won as of the third quarter this year. It secured about two years of workload by winning orders for a total of 15 ships (including one option), worth about 1.2 trillion won this year.
