Nordic American Tankers places order at Daehan Shipbuilding amid ‘favorable market’ | Tankers

Suezmax tanker specialist Nordic American Tankers is growing its fleet portfolio with two additional South Korean tankers.

US-listed NAT said on Friday that it had signed the preliminary agreements for the construction of two suezmax tankers.

The Herbjørn Hansson-led firm placed the order at the South Korean shipyard Daehan Shipbuilding with the units planned for delivery to NAT in 2028.

The price is $86m for each ship.

The shipowner also finalized last week the sale of a suezmax tanker pair built in 2004 and 2005. Both vessels have been delivered to their new owner.

The net cash to NAT is $50m. The shipowner didn’t disclose the vessels names or the buyer.

Herbjorn Hansson, founder, chairman and CEO at NAT, said: “These transactions show an active period. We have refinanced parts of our fleet, sold four ships, bought two ships, and ordered two newbuildings. We experience a very favorable tanker market. NAT is in a solid position.”
