CMA CGM celebrates dual launching of 15,000 TEU LNG ships

Latest figures from classification society DNV’s Alternative Fuels Insights (AFI) platform reveal that the trend towards LNG remains strong.

DNV, has shared the latest data from the January AFI platform, which shows a total of 20 new orders for alternative-fuelled vessels.

According to DNV’s AFI platform, 20 new orders were registered, of which 80% were LNG-fuelled container vessels.

From the alternative-fuelled vessel orders, LNG continues to dominate as the fuel of choice, followed by LPG and methanol.

Jason Stefanatos, Global Decarbonization Director DNV, said: “Some interesting insights from the first monthly update on DNV’s Alternative Fuels Insight (AFI) platform in 2026, which shows a total of 20 new orders for alternative-fuelled vessels. LNG-fuelled container vessels continue to account for the majority of orders (16), with one methanol-fuelled offshore vessel and three LPG carrier making up the remainder.

“These orders mark a clear continuation of trends from 2025, with container vessels dominating the orderbook and LNG the primary fuel of choice. This also reinforces the view that cargo owners and shipowners are pressing ahead with their own decarbonization strategies, even as market and regulatory uncertainties remain.”

The Alternative Fuels Insight platform provides the maritime industry with an open platform for evaluating the uptake of alternative fuels and technologies.
