Samsung Heavy Industries announced on Nov. 20 that it has secured an order for 7 container ships worth 1.922 trillion won from an Asian shipowner. These vessels are scheduled to be delivered to the shipowner sequentially by November 2029.

Orders for container ships, especially those featuring liquefied natural gas (LNG) dual fuel (DF) propulsion, have been on the rise as demand for eco-friendly replacement has recently grown.

With this contract, Samsung Heavy Industries has recorded a total order intake of 39 vessels worth $6.9 billion (approximately 10.14 trillion won) this year, including 7 LNG carriers, 9 shuttle tankers, 9 container ships, 2 ethane carriers, 11 crude oil tankers, and preliminary work contracts for offshore production facilities (1 unit).

Samsung Heavy Industries’ cumulative order backlog to date stands at 132 vessels, totaling $28.2 billion, securing stable workload. A Samsung Heavy Industries representative stated, “We are securing high-quality and stable workload in the commercial vessel sector and continuing our profitability-focused order strategy. Once we complete the planned offshore project (FLNG) contract within this year, achieving this year’s order target should be seamless.”
