Samsung Heavy Industries secures five-ship orders worth 1.27 trillion won

Samsung Heavy Industries said on the 28th it won orders for five ships worth 1.2692 trillion won (about $900 million). It secured two liquefied natural gas (LNG) carriers from a shipping company in Bermuda for $500 million (about 727.2 billion won) and two very large ethane carriers from a shipping company in Asia for $300 million (about 430.9 billion won). It signed a contract with a shipowner in Liberia for one crude oil carrier for $100 million (about 142.5 billion won).

Samsung Heavy Industries said it secured not only its mainstay LNG carriers but also very large ethane carriers and crude oil carriers through a diversified order portfolio strategy. As of the 28th, Samsung Heavy Industries’ accumulated order backlog stands at 134 ships, $28.7 billion (40.9233 trillion won).

A Samsung Heavy Industries official said, “With demand for LNG carriers remaining solid this year and large-scale offshore facility orders such as Coral and Delfin FLNG (floating liquefied natural gas production facilities) scheduled, we will continue a selective order strategy focused on profitability.”
