SHI, Rainbow Robotics to develop robot-based systems for shipbuilding

South Korea-based robot platform specialist Rainbow Robotics and Samsung Heavy Industries (SHI) are set to embark on the development of robot-based automation systems for shipbuilding and manufacturing sites.

On Oct. 24, Rainbow Robotics announced that it has signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with Samsung Heavy Industries for shipbuilding and manufacturing automation.

Through this partnership, Rainbow Robotics’ advanced robot platforms, including collaborative robots, dual-arm mobile robots, and quadruped robots, will combine with SHI’s deep shipyard and manufacturing expertise to accelerate the realization of the Smart Shipyard, the company said in a short statement.

Moving forward, both companies plan to validate robot automation technologies tailored for the shipbuilding industry and establish hands-on education infrastructures to nurture the next generation of automation specialists.

According to Rainbow Robotics, “this collaboration will set a new standard for robot-driven automation in the shipbuilding sector and contribute to the transformation of manufacturing environments worldwide.”
