Argent LNG and BOTAŞ shake on US LNG deal to enrich Türkiye’s energy arsenal

Argent LNG, a U.S.-based liquefied natural gas (LNG) export developer headquartered in Louisiana, has signed on the dotted line with Boru Hatları ile Petrol Taşıma A.Ş. (BOTAŞ), the state-owned natural gas company of the Republic of Türkiye, to supply LNG to Türkiye.

BOTAŞ and Argent LNG have inked a memorandum of understanding (MoU), which will establish a framework for the delivery of U.S.-origin LNG into Türkiye, with onward transmission of gas into neighboring markets.

The American player, which describes the U.S. LNG as abundant, competitive, and geopolitically neutral, underlines that Türkiye’s existing and expanding gas infrastructure, pipelines, LNG terminals, and storage capacity, make it the natural hub through which that supply can flow to the nations that need it most.

Jonathan Bass, Chairman & CEO of Argent LNG, commented: “Argent LNG was built to serve exactly this kind of partnership, long-term, strategic, geopolitical and grounded in a genuine commitment to the energy security of entire regions, not just individual buyers. BOTAŞ is the right partner to make that real.”

Argent LNG is advancing a large-scale liquefaction and export terminal at Port Fourchon. The company is focused on delivering reliable, competitively priced U.S.-origin LNG into global markets through long-term strategic supply partnerships that support energy security and diversification.

The MoU comes after Tecnimont, Maire’s company, opted to enter the LNG market through an agreement with Argent LNG, which will have an initial capacity of 12 million tons per annum (mtpa) of LNG, with the potential expansion up to 25 mtpa as part of the project’s Phase 2.
