Egypt’s Ministry of Petroleum and Mineral Resources has confirmed the start of production at the Al-Wasl-4 development well on the North Safa field’s offshore platform in the Gulf of Suez, increasing GUPCO’s production to 65,000 barrels of crude oil per day (b/d).

The well is producing at a rate of 2,250 b/d and approximately 1.3 million cubic feet of gas per day (mmcf/d), which reflects the company’s strategy aimed at maximizing yields from its fields through the implementation of an integrated program for drilling exploratory and development wells, re-evaluating geological structures, and exploiting the remaining opportunities in brownfields.

GUPCO describes the North Safa field as one of the most important discoveries made in the Gulf of Suez region in recent years, as actual production from the field began in 2024, when the firm implemented a development project for the field.

This includes the construction of a new offshore production platform, linking production lines, and fully adhering to the application of the highest standards of occupational safety, health, and environmental protection.

The company is also implementing an integrated program to maintain the pressure of the reservoir by injecting water into three wells to maximize production rates and achieve the highest efficiency, in parallel with the preparation for the second phase of the field’s development.

The start-up of production from this well is in line with Egypt’s agenda to stimulate investment in hydrocarbon exploration and field development by drilling 586 oil and gas wells by 2030.
