Technip Energies, JGC and SHI chosen to progress Mozambique’s second FLNG project

A partnership of Technip Energies, JGC and Samsung Heavy Industries (SHI) has secured a contract with Mozambique Rovuma Venture (MRV), an Eni-participated joint venture (JV), to progress work on Mozambique’s second floating liquefied natural gas (FLNG) facility.

The contract, defined as significant, adds to the previously announced one for early works and expands Technip Energies’ scope of work on the Coral Norte/North FLNG project to be developed in the Rovuma basin.

Building on the Coral Sul/South FLNG, which became operational in 2022, the Coral North FLNG project will develop, construct, and operate a floating LNG facility with an annual capacity of 3.55 million metric tons (mtpa) approximately 55 kilometers off the coast of northern Mozambique’s Cabo Delgado province.

According to Technip Energies, Coral Norte is designed as an enhanced replica of Coral Sul, drawing on the same feed gas composition and field location. Thanks to this proven design and incorporating lessons learned, Coral Norte is set to benefit from de-risked project execution, increased efficiency, LNG capacity, and optimized performance.

After Eni received the go-ahead for Coral Norte, the final investment decision (FID) for the FLNG development was taken in October 2025. This allows the exploration of natural gas resources from the Coral Eocene 441 deposit in Area 4 concession, covering the Coral Sul FLNG facility, the approved second FLNG development, and the Rovuma LNG onshore facilities.

The hull launch for Coral Norte took place on January 16 at Samsung Heavy Industries’ shipyard in Geoje, South Korea.

The Coral Norte FLNG measures 432 meters in length and 66 meters in width, with a launch weight of 123,000 tons.
