Türkiye‘s national oil & gas giant Türkiye Petrolleri A.O. (TPAO) has become a partner in an offshore exploration license in Bulgaria, located near Sakarya, Türkiye’s largest natural gas field.

TPAO reported today, February 18, that it had, as a partner, joined the exploration license in the Khan Tervel field, located in Bulgaria’s maritime jurisdiction area in the Black Sea, in line with its growth strategy abroad.

The field is operated by Shell and is located close to the Sakarya gas field.

In the first phase of the project, a 3,800-square-kilometer 3D seismic data acquisition campaign will be carried out with Shell, in line with which exploration options will be evaluated as part of the next stage.

“This agreement will bring together our established experience in the Black Sea with Shell’s technical know-how and global exploration expertise, making a significant contribution to Turkey’s energy independence goal,” TPAO said.
