Australia’s engineering company Worley has secured an assignment at a carbon dioxide (CO2) LNG sequestration project in Qatar, which is run by the Persian Gulf state’s oil and gas giant QatarEnergy.

Samsung C&T has hired Worley to deliver detailed engineering services for the QatarEnergy’s carbon dioxide LNG sequestration project, which will support permanent storage of approximately 4.3 million metric tonnes of CO2 per annum, marking a significant milestone in Qatar’s commitment to sustainable development.

Thanks to this deal, the Australian firm will provide detailed engineering services to Samsung C&T, with the work being executed from the firm’s Qatar office, supported by its Global Integrated Delivery center in India and additional expertise from teams in Australia.

Once operational, the LNG sequestration project is anticipated to play a key role in reducing greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions and enabling a more sustainable energy system for the region. This assignment follows Worley’s delivery of the front-end engineering design phase for the project, reinforcing the company’s role as a partner in the energy transition.

This deal comes days after the Australian firm confirmed two contracts with Equinor in Norway and Venture Global in Louisiana, United States.

QatarEnergy has won multiple new LNG offtake deals, including the recent ones with Malaysia’s Petronas, Japan’s Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI), and JERA.
