Axpo has completed Spain’s first ship-to-ship Bio-LNG Bunkering Operation at the Algeciras Port, strengthening its position in sustainable marine fuels.
A volume of more than 4000 m3 of ISCC-certified Bio-LNG was delivered to the CM CGM Fort Bourbon, marking a significant milestone in the decarbonization of the maritime industry.
The operation builds upon Axpo’s recent LNG bunkering successes in major ports, including Sines, Algeciras and Malaga.
The Bio-LNG came from the Enagás Regasification Plant in Cartagena, and their Bio-LNG service has been certified by the EU’s International Sustainability and Carbon Certification (ISCC EU) since last July.
The facility meets all social, environmental and traceability criteria per EU.
Cartagena is a major LNG infrastructure hub in the Mediterranean, playing a major role in supplying next-generation marine fuels and supporting wider European decarbonisation goals.
This operation shows Axpo’s commitment to pioneering a sustainable LNG solution in the Iberian market and actively supporting the decarbonisation of the maritime sector, said Daniele Corti, Head Small Scale LNG at Axpo.
He added that the company is dedicated to expanding its Bio-LNG portfolio to meet the demand for cleaner maritime fuels and help customers achieve their ambitious emissions targets.
The company wants to scale its Bio-LNG portfolio and forge partnerships with industry leaders.
Collaborative efforts are vital to achieve global emissions targets and advance a cleaner and more sustainable future for maritime logistics.
The standard proof of sustainability certificate for this delivery was issued at the beginning of August 2025 by Enagas.
