Baltic Dry Index Jumps on Tuesday

The Baltic Exchange’s dry bulk index, which tracks rates for vessels transporting dry commodities, advanced for a third session on Tuesday, jumping 12.3% to its highest since December 19 at 1,999 points, mainly boosted by the larger segment.

The capesize index, which typically transports 150,000-ton cargoes such as iron ore and coal, was up for a second day, climbing 22.4% to 3,215 points.

At the same time, the panamax index, which usually carries 60,000-70,000 tons of coal or grain, rose 0.8% to 1,625 points; and the supramax index increased 0.4% to 1,039 points.
