Dutch cargo ship Minervagracht reported a splash and an explosion while sailing in the Gulf of Aden, 120 nm east of the port city of Aden, Yemen.
The crew of the general cargo vessel built in 2011 said that a projectile landed 2 nm away at 0320 hours local time, per maritime security company Vanguard.
The ship was sailing from Newport on the U.S East Coast, calling at Durban, South Africa, and its current destination is Suez.
A report from UKMTO stated that the vessel and crew members are safe and heading to their next port of call.
Security company Vanguard stated that the vessel is not affiliated with Israel in any way, making it unlikely for it to be the target of a Houthi attack.
Houthi activities in the area were subdued in September, and there were no UKMTO reports since September 4, 2025, when another ship reported a projectile hitting the water and also severe electronic interference in the region.
On September 16, 2025, UKMTO issued a warning to vessels stating they must remain vigilant in the region.
Despite a decrease in the threat level inside the Gulf region, ships are reminded that there is a risk of collateral damage to vessels visiting ports in the southern Red Sea.
All ships must exercise extreme caution in the vicinity of ports that have been subject to strikes previously and should carefully consider the risk of navigation in those areas.
