Pan Ocean has placed an order for two very large crude carriers  with HD Hyundai Heavy Industries.
Pan Ocean announced on June 13 that it has signed a contract with HD Hyundai Heavy Industries for the construction of two eco-friendly 300,000 DWT  VLCCs.

The two VLCCs are scheduled to be built at HD Hyundai Heavy Industries’ Ulsan Shipyard. The delivery is targeted for the third quarter of 2027.

The ordered VLCCs are large vessels designed to meet the Energy Efficiency Design Index (EEDI) Phase 3, which is a strengthened greenhouse gas emission regulation by the International Maritime Organization (IMO). These eco-friendly ships are equipped with selective catalytic reduction (SCR) technology, meeting the highest standards for nitrogen oxide emission regulations in areas governed by the International Convention for the Prevention of Pollution from Ships.

Notably, these vessels are designed to be convertible to next-generation alternative fuels such as liquefied natural gas (LNG) and ammonia when necessary, allowing for flexible responses to future global environmental regulations.

Pan Ocean’s proactive investment in acquiring new vessels and securing an eco-friendly fleet is expected to significantly contribute to strengthening its shipping competitiveness and expanding its business operations. With the addition of these two newly ordered ships, Pan Ocean’s VLCC fleet will increase to four vessels.

A Pan Ocean official stated, “We will continue to invest in eco-friendly infrastructure to create a sustainable society, while actively responding to uncertainties and volatilities in the shipping market through diversification of our business portfolio.”
