Disney Cruise Line officially welcomed its newest ship, the Disney Destiny, during a grand christening ceremony at Port Everglades in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, on Monday evening. The event celebrated the ship’s entry into the fleet with music, lights, and a full-scale Disney-style performance.
The ceremony included drone effects, large-scale projections on the ship, and performances by a live band and vocalists. Guests enjoyed pop-rock versions of songs from Disney films such as Hercules, The Lion King, Frozen, Pirates of the Caribbean, and Marvel’s Black Panther.
Josh D’Amaro, Chairman of Disney Experiences, said Disney has always found new ways to entertain people and connect them with its stories.
Broadway performer Susan Egan served as the godmother of the Disney Destiny. Egan, known for voicing Megara in Hercules and for playing Belle in Beauty and the Beast on Broadway, gave the ceremonial blessing and led the traditional champagne christening. The event ended with a bright and colourful finale.
Joe Schott, President of Disney Signature Experiences, said that Disney Cruise Line and Disney Imagineers spent years designing and building the Disney Destiny. He noted that their creativity and hard work resulted in something truly special.
Alongside the christening, Disney Cruise Line announced its new “Discover Your Destiny” initiative. The programme, run with local organisations in Florida and The Bahamas, aims to inspire students through the arts.
The Disney Destiny is the newest ship in Disney Cruise Line’s expansion plans. The company aims to grow its fleet to 13 ships by 2031.
Upcoming ships include the Disney Adventure, which will operate from Singapore starting in March 2026, a fourth Wish-class ship expected in 2027, and a brand-new class of ships in 2029.
Disney has also partnered with Oriental Land Co., Ltd. to introduce Disney cruises to Japan in 2029.
