The first Emirati Female Ship Captain, Sahar Rasti, has launched the UAE’s first digital platform dedicated to finding jobs in the maritime industry.

It is called Rahaal, which means traveller or nomad in Arabic, and the name was chosen to reflect the nature of the profession that involves constant travel and movement.

While launching it, Captain Rasti said that when looking for jobs, most people do not know where to begin, and so the platform has linked all the companies and academic institutions to aid in the search for cadets and recruitment to various positions open in companies and maritime institutes.

The platform unites all the hiring entities, which makes job searching easy and convenient.

Hessa Al Malek, Advisor to the Minister for Maritime Transport Affairs, stated that the platform will support national talent and localise opportunities in the maritime sector.

Malek said that the industry is not limited to ships and ports but includes shipbuilding, medical services, repairs and maintenance, and much more.

She added that seafarers often rely on connections to find jobs and said they need a platform to inform them of all the opportunities in one place and connect them to employers.

Fujairah ranks 3rd in the world in the number of ships it serves, highlighting the importance of its maritime location. She called on the community to engage with the sector and said that it deserves more investment and localisation.

She said that the platform will help students determine their career path as well as many graduates are confused about what they want to really do in maritime.
