The Mormugao Port Authority (MPA) in Goa is set to sign 24 Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) worth ₹3,000 crore during the upcoming India Maritime Week 2025 (IMW) in Mumbai.

The event, scheduled from October 27 to 31, 2025, at the Bombay Exhibition Centre, will bring together global leaders, investors, and industry stakeholders.

The agreements will support the redevelopment of port berths, solar power projects, and other infrastructure improvements. The MoUs are part of MPA’s long-term plan to increase its cargo-handling capacity from the current 65 million metric tonnes annually to 100 million metric tonnes by 2035.

MPA Chairperson Dr. N Vinodkumar said that berth No. 9, formerly an iron ore mechanical berth, will be redeveloped into a 350-metre-long berth for iron ore and general cargo, allowing larger ships to dock. Additionally, another berth will be upgraded to host four domestic cruise vessels, enhancing the port’s tourism capacity.

The port is already recognised as India’s first green port, generating 3 MW of electricity through its in-house solar power plant, covering 100% of current consumption. Plans are underway for an additional 2 MW solar plant to support increased power needs, particularly with the new cruise terminal becoming operational.

The port is also preparing to handle container vessels, with feeder ships arriving from Mumbai and connecting to Mundra Port in Gujarat.

India Maritime Week 2025, organised by the Indian Ports Association under the Ministry of Ports, Shipping and Waterways, is expected to host over one lakh delegates, 500 exhibitors, and representatives from more than 100 countries. The event aims to generate investment opportunities exceeding ₹10 lakh crore.

The IMW will include thematic sessions, high-level dialogues, and the Global Maritime CEO Forum, where Prime Minister Narendra Modi is expected to deliver the keynote address. MPA will also feature its modernisation journey, cargo-handling capabilities, cruise terminal development, and sustainability initiatives at a dedicated pavilion during the event.

To promote the event locally, MPA held a mega roadshow in Panaji in September 2025, attended by Goa Chief Minister Dr. Pramod Sawant and Minister Mauvin Godinho. The port continues to encourage participation from stakeholders across the state.

At a press briefing, Deputy Chairperson Vinayak Rao shared the port’s plans to become a smart port, using advanced technologies like 5G to improve operations and communication.
