Indonesia’s Attorney General’s Office said on Wednesday it would later this month auction off an Iranian-flagged supertanker that was seized in 2023 on suspicion of involvement in the illegal transshipment of crude oil.
With the length of more than 300m (984.25 ft), the MT Arman 114 was seized in 2023 in Indonesia’s North Natuna Sea and was suspected of transferring oil to another vessel without a permit, Indonesian authorities said.
The supertanker is classified as a Very Large Crude Carrier and will be auctioned on January 30 for 1.17 trillion rupiah ($69.01 million), with its cargo, which includes nearly 170,000 metric tons of light crude oil. the office said in a statement dated Tuesday.
Iran denied in 2023 that the tanker belonged to Tehran.
Reuters could not immediately contact operators of MT Arman 114.
