Per U.S authorities, Washington is reinforcing its military posture in response to increasing instability in Iran.

The U.S is deploying its air, land and sea forces in the region while closely monitoring the conditions in Syria.

A squadron of F-15 fighter jets has been sent along with a C-17 aircraft carrying heavy equipment.

An aircraft carrier strike group led by USS Abraham Lincoln is also moving towards the region and is likely to arrive in a few days.

Though the US is moving quickly, uncertainties over the naval fleet’s capacity to manage multiple Iranian drones remain a big concern for Washington.

Iran’s drone fleet is quite capable and threatens surface vessels, especially as they are large, move slowly and can be easily identified on radar, making them easily targetable.

Iran’s strength lies instead in these low-cost, high-volume drone systems, particularly one-way strike drones that fly into their targets and detonate.

The country’s opposition group had exposed a top-secret drone base in the country, which is being overseen by Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.

This U.S. military buildup coincides with widespread unrest inside Iran, as protests erupted on December 28.

The Human Rights Activists News Agency (HRANA) said at least 5,459 people had died and 17,031 cases were under investigation.

Iran’s Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, has moved into a bunker in Tehran after Iranian officials suggested he do so, fearing a US attack.

U.S President Trump had addressed the reporters a few days back and stated, “We have a big flotilla going in that direction, and we’ll see what happens. We have a big force going towards Iran. I’d rather not see anything happen, but we’re watching them very closely.”
