Climate technology specialist Syroco has officially opened a new regional office in the Port of Hamburg, Germany, as part of efforts to meet rapidly growing demand across Europe for its AI-powered voyage optimisation software. The office is located in the Digital Hub Logistics & Commerce at the heart of the port, which is one of Europe’s busiest and handled over 7.8 million twenty-foot equivalent units (TEUs) in 2024 alone.
Heading Syroco’s German operations is Florian Schäffer, the newly appointed Country Manager – Germany, who brings over 10 years of experience in business development and strategic growth in the technology space. His role will focus on serving and expanding Syroco’s customer base across Germany, where the company already has a number of existing clients, including United Heavy Lift (UHL), Oldendorff and BBC Chartering.

The team will also have responsibility over expanding the adoption and usage of the company’s voyage optimisation software, Syroco Live. The platform uses highly advanced digital twin simulations that are a precise replica of a vessel and mimic its performance in real time, allowing for significantly optimised routing, speed, and power settings.
The new location forms part of Syroco’s ongoing expansion plans to more than double the number of ships that use its platform by the end of 2025. Last year, Marseille, France-headquartered Syroco secured EUR7.5 million in Series A funding, which is being used to facilitate its growth trajectory, with more new office locations to be announced later this year.
Alex Caizergues, Founder and CEO of Syroco, said: “The shifting regulatory landscape for net zero is quickly and fundamentally transforming the maritime industry, driving more and more companies towards digitalisation. We have witnessed this firsthand as demand for our signature product, Syroco Live, has skyrocketed, enabling maritime businesses to align with and achieve sustainability targets, irrespective of fuel choice, by successfully reducing energy consumption and maximising operational efficiency. Having a regional presence in Germany gives us a footing in one of Europe’s busiest ports and allows us to bring an even higher precision of local expertise and knowledge within a booming market.”

Syroco Live leverages AI and digital twin technologies to optimise vessel performance, providing real-time insights and predictive analytics. This results in significant fuel savings and reduced emissions, averaging at 10 per cent per voyage without increasing journey time. The platform also has access to the most accurate observations and predictions of metocean data available, including the world’s largest constellation of 100+ multipurpose satellites that use radio occultation technology.

Florian Schäffer, Syroco Country Manager – Germany, added: “We see a clear desire among German maritime companies to accelerate their environmental trajectory. Syroco provides these businesses with a digital solution that not only ensures compliance, but brings other added benefits such as significant cost savings and increased operational safety, making this a win-win-win scenario. Our strategic new location, which is in the historic Speicherstadt district in the Port of Hamburg, places Syroco alongside numerous major shipping companies and vessel operators, allowing us to greatly expand our efforts in driving the industry’s energy transition.”
