Europe gas storage levels of 35% expected by winter’s end, Vitol executive says

Europe’s gas storage levels are expected to stand at about 35% by the end of winter this year, Vitol’s head of LNG trading, Claudio Ribeiro, told the Asia Gas Markets Conference on Tuesday.

Europe’s gas storage levels were at 83% as of October 1, 2025, European Commission data showed, while the levels concluded last winter at 34%.

“We have a European winter to go through, which will be critical for end-of-winter balances. Today we are projecting around 35% storage at end of winter,” Ribeiro said.

“The weather models are putting a greater than 50% chance of overall La Nina winter… which typically comes with colder winter periods,” he added.
