Suezmax tanker specialist Nordic American Tankers has sold one of its oldest vessels. New York-listed NAT said on Tuesday that it had sealed a deal to sell a 2005 built ship, at a price of about $40m.

The company didn’t disclose the name of the ship, but the vessel fits the description of the 159,331-dwt Nordic Freedom and 159,089-dwt Nordic Skier (both suezmax vessels were built in 2005).

“We expect that our fleet will increase in the years to come,” the statement of the company reads. “The company is in a very solid position and prospects are good,” it added.

Last month, Nordic also announced that it had entered into a sales agreement for a 2003-built suezmax tanker.

The sales price of the ship is $25m net to Nordic American Tankers, the company said, adding that the ship has no debt.
