Russian oil transit via Ukraine hits 10-year low amid pipeline attacks

Russian oil transit through Ukraine dropped to a 10-year low of 9.7 million metric tons in 2025, according to data released by analyst Expro on Monday.

The decline comes amid regular Ukrainian attacks on the Russian segment of the Druzhba oil export pipeline, which has been a key route for Russian oil exports to Central Europe.

Despite the ongoing four-year war between the two countries, Ukraine has continued to allow Russian oil to flow through its territory, primarily supplying Slovakia and Hungary. The Czech Republic, which previously received Russian oil via this route, discontinued its purchases in 2025.

According to Expro’s data, Slovakia received 4.9 million tons of oil through the Ukrainian transit system in 2025, while shipments to Hungary amounted to 4.35 million tons.

The figures represent a continuing downward trend in Russian oil transit via Ukraine. Transit volumes stood at 11.4 million tons in 2024, 13.5 million tons in 2023, and 14.5 million tons in 2022, showing a steady decline since the beginning of the conflict.
