South Korea turns to Oman to secure LNG supplies amid Middle East crisis | LNG & LPG news

South Korea’s foreign minister, Cho Hyun, in a telephone conversation with Oman’s foreign minister, Badr Albusaidi, on Tuesday, March 24 sought support from Oman in supplying energy sources, including liquefied natural gas (LNG) and crude oil.

In addition to energy issues, the two ministers discussed the recent developments in the Middle East.

The move comes as disruptions linked to regional tensions push up the cost of transporting oil and gas, with knock-on effects across global trade.

Oman’s foreign minister Badr explained that major infrastructure across the Gulf region, including ports and industrial complexes in Oman, had sustained serious damage from the Iranian attacks, and requested Korea’s continued attention and support.

From his side, minister Cho expressed deep concern over the damage to civilian facilities in Oman, including Duqm port and the port of Salalah, caused by the ongoing conflict, while requesting Oman’s active cooperation in ensuring stable supplies of energy resources such as LNG and crude oil.

The two ministers agreed to remain in close communication and cooperation for the development of bilateral relations and the restoration of peace and stability in the region.

South Korea’s foreign ministry held an assessment meeting last week to discuss measures for the safety of Korean vessels and crews in the Strait of Hormuz in light of the recent developments in the Middle East. These measures involve – among others – maintaining a close cooperation with relevant ministries, evacuation support in the event of an emergency, and monitoring the status of essential supplies onboard the Korean vessels.

Officials said the ministry is closely monitoring the situation related to the Strait of Hormuz.
