RTE picks ABL for work on French 600MW offshore wind farm

Energy and marine consultancy ABL has been awarded a contract to provide marine warranty survey (MWS) services to French transmission system operator RTE for the installation of the grid infrastructure at the A03 Dunkirk offshore wind farm.

The A03 Dunkirk offshore wind project will produce up to 600MW of renewable energy from up to 46 wind turbine generators. The wind farm will be constructed some 10 km north of Dunkirk in 30 m of water.

The wind farm is projected to produce enough clean energy to power nearly one million households.

ABL will support RTE with the marine transportation and installation activities of an offshore substation and subsea export cables. The substation will consist of a 2,200-tonne four-leg jacket, piles and a 3,250-tonne topside.

The company’s scope of work includes technical reviews and approvals of project marine engineering documentation, drawings and procedures, suitability surveys of the proposed fleet, and on-site attendances to certify approval and witness the warranted operations.

ABL will also support cable pull-in, laying, and protection operations for two 16-kilometre-long submarine export cables. The project will be led from the firm’s Paris office.
