China’s May coal imports from Indonesia slide 26%; Russia shipments fall 9%

China’s coal imports from Indonesia, the country’s largest coal supplier, fell 26% on the year to 12.48 million tons in May, customs data showed on Friday, amid a sharp fall in overall coal imports.

Imports from Russia fell 9% in May from the same month last year to 8.25 million metric tons.

Imports from Australia rebounded in May, rising 11% year-on-year to 7.46 million tons, also an increase of 7.1% from April.

China’s coal imports from all sources fell by 18% year-on-year in May, as buyers shifted to cheaper domestic coal.
