Iran says ports ready to support shipping in Strait of Hormuz

Iran has said its ports are fully prepared to provide maritime services and support to commercial vessels operating in the Strait of Hormuz and surrounding regional waters.

According to statements carried by state media IRNA news agency, Iran’s Ports and Maritime Organisation said it is ready to offer technical assistance, logistical support and medical services to ships transiting the key global shipping route.

The announcement comes shortly after US President Donald Trump paused Washington’s maritime operation, known as “Project Freedom,” which had been aimed at facilitating the safe passage of vessels through the strait.

The pause in the US operation follows signs of progress in ongoing diplomatic engagement between Washington and Tehran. Trump indicated on Wednesday that a potential agreement with Iran could be within reach ahead of his upcoming international engagements.

The Strait of Hormuz remains a critical energy corridor, handling a significant share of global oil and gas shipments, and has been at the centre of recent geopolitical tensions in the region.
