Turkey identifies four offshore wind zones for upcoming tenders

Turkish authorities have identified four offshore wind sites in the waters off Saros Bay, Gökçeada, Bozcaada, and Edremit for the upcoming Renewable Energy Resource Area (YEKA) tenders.

Turkey’s Energy and Natural Resources minister Alparslan Bayraktar said that the country is aiming to achieve 5GW in offshore wind by 2035. He added that the YEKA tenders will offer at least 2GW annually, with three-quarters of that dedicated to wind power.

Turkey’s installed wind capacity has exceeded 15GW, which towers over the 20MW the country had in 2005. Wind generation was responsible for around 11% of the country’s electricity production in 2025.

Turkey is targeting a combined 120GW of wind and solar capacity by 2035 and plans to invest $30bn in transmission infrastructure during that period.
