Arcius Energy, an affiliate of the UK-headquartered BP and the UAE’s ADNOC, has set the stage to embark on a multi-well drilling campaign off the coast of Egypt with a drillship owned by Valaris, an offshore drilling contractor.
The Ministry of Petroleum has disclosed that Arcius Energy is set to begin drilling two new offshore gas exploration wells in the Mediterranean, Atoll West and Nofret. This is aligned with the country’s plan to drill more than 100 exploratory oil and gas wells in 2026 in cooperation with investment partners.
The drilling campaign aims to further strengthen the company’s exploration and upstream activities in Egypt. As a result, the Valaris DS-12 drillship, which has departed from the Port of Las Palmas, Spain, is en route to the Middle East in preparation for the start of drilling activities.
“This follows a recent inspection visit conducted by the company to ensure the vessel’s operational readiness, during which it commended the efficiency of operations, the robust safety systems in place, and the high competence of the onboard personnel,” explained Egypt’s Ministry of Petroleum.
BP and ADNOC’s JV is not the only player searching for gas in the Mediterranean Sea, as illustrated by Shell, which recently witnessed promising drilling results offshore Egypt.
