London-based oil and gas player Energean has restarted production from a floating production, storage, and offloading (FPSO) vessel deployed at a field off the coast of Israel.
Energean’s FPSO Energean Power is now fully operational. After the U.S. and Israel began their attack on Iran, the Strait of Hormuz was closed, and multiple energy infrastructure assets suffered damage from missile strikes.
The safety situation led to precautionary shutdowns of existing energy infrastructure, including Israel’s Leviathan and Karish gas fields. Aside from Energean, Chevron, as the operator of Leviathan with a 29.66% interest, also obtained a clearance notification to restart operations at the Leviathan platform.
After U.S. President Donald J. Trump revealed a ceasefire deal with Iran under the condition that the Strait of Hormuz would be reopened, Energean received a notice permitting the FPSO Energean Power to resume production and operations.
“Following notification from the Ministry of Energy and Infrastructure, production was restored to regular levels within 48 hours, delivering natural gas to customers in accordance with contractual requirements,” emphasized the firm.
The company kicked off production at the Karish field in October 2022, once the FPSO Energean Power crossed the Suez Canal and arrived in Israel in early June 2022.
