Carbon Ridge has achieved a shipping first after deploying a centrifugal onboard carbon capture system (OCCS) onboard an LR2 product tanker owned by Scorpio Tankers Inc.

The pilot aboard the ship, conducted in partnership with Scorpio Tankers, shows a major milestone in the development and expansion of OCCS solutions within the maritime industry.

The pilot began in July at Besiktas Shipyard in Turkey aboard the STI SPIGA.

Carbon Ridge’s technology provides a modular design that decreases initial capital investment and operational costs while delivering superior capture efficiency compared to traditional technologies.

The compact design means that the system takes 75% less space than conventional OCCS columns, and it can be installed both vertically and horizontally.

Captured CO2 is compressed, liquefied, and stored safely for the voyage.

Combining optimised onboard OCCS technology with the logistics solution for captured CO2, Carbon Ridge provides a solution ensuring the full value-chain compliance with maritime and regional regulations.

Designed for retrofit and newbuilds both, the technology is future-proof and also scalable. It offers flexibility within their fleet decarbonisation strategies without needing major propulsion system overhauls.

By integrating the technology into a compact, efficient system for marine usage, Carbon Ridge is unlocking a scalable pathway for shipowners and charterers to meet stringent regulatory and climate targets.
