Hyundai Steel Industry, a subsidiary of Hyundai Engineering & Construction, has won a contract to manufacture and install substructures for an offshore wind farm off South Korea.
The company inked a contract with Hanwha Ocean covering fabrication and installation of substructures for the Shinan Ui offshore wind project.
The contract is valued at $450m and will start immediately and last until January 2029. The project will have a capacity of 390MW.
This will be the first time the pre-piling method will be used in South Korea. The method involves installing piles before placing the substructure. This is expected to shorten construction time and increase installation accuracy.
Hyundai Steel Industry has been a part of the offshore wind sector in South Korea since the country’s first commercial offshore wind farm, Tamra, which was built in 2012.
