Haesong Offshore Wind has signed preferred supplier agreements with LS Cable & System and LS Marine Solution, as well as a tripartite memorandum of understanding with KEPCO, to secure delivery of subsea cables for its Haesong Offshore Wind 1 and 3 projects.
The agreements establish a framework for the supply, transportation, and installation of subsea cables, while enhancing operations and maintenance capabilities and advancing localisation of offshore wind technology in South Korea.
The preferred supplier arrangements are designed to de-risk cable delivery and installation schedules, which are often critical path items in offshore wind developments.
According to Haesong Offshore Wind’s social media announcement, with local manufacturing and installation capacity now formally secured, the Haesong projects are positioned to move forward with “greater certainty on timelines and costs”.
Owned and developed by Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners (CIP), the Haesong project will be built off the west coast of Shinan in Jeonnam province in two 504MW phases, Haesong 1 and Haesong 3, for a total capacity of 1 GW.
In June 2025, the developer signed a grid interconnection agreement with KEPCO, enabling the connection of the energy capacity generated by the projects to KEPCO’s grid.
The move comes as South Korea accelerates its offshore wind ambitions under its national energy transition plan, with several large-scale projects at various stages of development along the country’s west and south coasts.
